Podiatries are specialists who diagnoses and treats conditions affecting the foot, ankle, and structures of the leg, including lower extremity anatomy, general human anatomy, physiology, physical assessment, pathophysiology, genetics, microbiology, pharmacology, physical rehabilitation, sports medicine, general principles of orthopedic surgery, and foot and ankle surgery.


Podiatrists play an important role in the maintenance of mobility and general health and independence of many members of the community. Podiatrists have a major part to play in the treatment and education of people with sports injuries and lower limb biomechanical problems. They assess and treat many conditions of the lower limb in walking, running and during sport.
