Diabetes foot care is vital. Persons suffering from diabetes need to be extra careful with their feet. Infections of diabetic feet can be most serious, in some cases requiring amputation of the feet. People with diabetes tend to heal more slowly from cuts, sores and wounds, because the body's processes that fight infection tend to respond more slowly.
Corn and calluses are thick, hard layers of dead skin that usually form under the feet, at the sides of the toes or above the toes. A callus is a more diffused thickening of the skin whereas a corn is a thicker and more focused.
A chiropodist is someone trained in the treatment of minor foot disorders and who also provides general footcare advice. A chiropody treatment includes cutting of the toenails, the removal of in-grown toenails, callouses and corns and treatment for foot ailments such as plantar warts (verrucae), athlete's foot, sweaty feet, foot odour and dry / cracked heels.
Have children's feet examined regularly by a chiropodist. Foot health begins in childhood. Your child's feet must carry him or her for a lifetime. Your child's life is certain to be happier if you have your child develop strong, healthy feet as he or she grows to maturity.
